Hi Lisa,

It is my understanding that the Eastern Gate and the Gate called
'beautiful' are one and the same. This gate was also known as 'the
golden gate.'

There is some history behind this gate, both secular and Biblical.
When Herod was given the title 'King of the Jews' by Caesar Augustine,
he set about to rebuild the temple so that the peoples of Israel would
accept him as their sovereign. But Herod placed over the eastern gate
an emblem of an eagle. This emblem signified that Israel was subject
to the Roman god 'Caesar.' (The rulers of the Roman Empire were
considered to be one of the gods.)

Bible history of this gate is even more telling. With the destruction of
Jerusalem in 70 A.D., the walls of the city remained in much disrepair
for a considerable time. They were rebuilt by Suleiman in 1537-1541.
In do this he had the Eastern Gate sealed off. Whatever his reason for
sealing the gate, we know that God was actually behind it.

Ezekiel 44:2 says, "This gate shall be shut; it shall not be opened, and
no one shall enter by it, for the Lord God of Israel has entered by it;
therefore it shall be shut." When did the Lord God of Israel enter
through this gate? This was the gate that Jesus entered as the
peoples begin singing, "Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is He
who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest."

To shorten everything down a bit, this is also the gate that is to be
opened at the second coming of Jesus.

Blessing,

Bro. Buddy
