> Why is a legal marriage ceramony important?

The ceremony is one part of the marriage. The legal aspect is
another. God ordained human government as a safeguard
against irresponsible behavior in society. To have sex without
benefit of marriage is to sin against God.

> It has been argued to meet that if you have found the women/man you are
> going to marry and have made a commitment to them before God and just
> havent had the ceremony yet then it is OK to have sex.

> What would you say to this?

This kind of thinking is not only irresponsible, it is also sinful. Any act
of sex before marriage is considered adultery in the Scriptures. There is
no way to justify this by saying there has been a commitment to one
another before God. In the Bible, the engagement period as considered a
sacred time for both the groom to be and the bride. They are to keep
themselves pure.
