"Ask the Pastor"

Joey,

Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins. He took our sins to the
cross. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, all our sins,
both past sins and any future sins, have been placed on Him. This does
not mean that we have permission to sin. It means that God will deal
with us as His children and through mercy. He does not hold our sins
against us.

But there is much more to the picture. When we turn to Jesus
Christ as our Savior, God places the Spirit of Jesus in our hearts.
Thus we find Jesus helping us process life on a different level.
When we sin, the Lord will help us by producing repentances in our
hearts. He will also give us grace to overcome sin patterns that once
dominated our life.

As for being saved and never sinning again --- That doesn't
happen. And while we are truly given a new heart with a new life,
we will still stumble at times. The Bible says that if we say we have no
sin, we are deceiving ourselves. If we confess our sin, then the
Lord is faithful to forgive us of our sins and will cleanse us of all
unrighteousness.

Don't be too hard on yourself. The important thing is to turn to
Jesus and call upon Him as your Lord and Savior.
