Ask The Pastor

April 14, 2003

Brittany,

I'll break your questions into parts so that you can follow my
answers better.

> Question:

> I was wondering when the religion of Christianity was founded.

The new covenant was set in place by Jesus Christ Himself, through his death, burial, and resurrection. As for Christianity being a religion, this depends how we view religion. In the Bible, the Christian faith is never spoken of as a religion. However, the term usually speaks of a way of worship. Since Christians do worship God through His Son Jesus Christ, Christianity is often spoken of as a religion.

> See, I know that Jesus did not come to start a new religion, but to
> only show the way, the truth, and how to live.

Good. You have defined what the new covenant is all about.

> See I just want to make sure that I am not a product of my culture,
> but a seeker of the true Lord.

I am glad to hear this. The true Lord is Jesus Himself. He came to give us Himself. But it is also important to understand that the Church, which simply means God's people called together, was ordained by and set in place through Jesus Christ. Every believer should be a member of God's Church.

> I'm kinda confused then about all the different religions. I know
> that "religion" is not what matters, but when it comes to things
> like buddist and muslims, it does matter.

Religion is very important to groups like Buddhists and Muslims. All any religion can do, that is outside Jesus Christ, is give a system of searching with its rules and rituals. But in Jesus the search ends. In Him alone we meet the eternal God. Jesus is actually God incarnate.

> People say that Jesus may have been influence my the buddist
> religion, but I do not believe this is true.

Jesus Christ had no need of being influenced by any religion. He Himself is the Creator of all things.

> I know this is a lot, but I'm really wondering about it all.

It is my pleasure to provide some answers to your questions. Always feel free to write me.

The Lord bless you,

Buddy
