Sis. Allen,
It really depends on what is meant by a deathbed
confession. To confess that we are sinners will not get us to
heaven. But to acknowledge that we are sinners in need of a
Savior, and to appeal to and confess Jesus Christ as our own
Lord and Savior, yes, this will result in salvation. As long
as there is breath in our body, we have the opportunity to be
saved. The rule of salvation is for the living.
The Scripture that speaks well to this has to do with the
thief on the cross. This man confessed Jesus to be Lord and
Messiah. He asked the Lord to remember him in His kingdom.
Jesus said the condemned thief would be with Him in paradise.
I would certainly call that deathbed repentance, or the
confession unto life.
The point is that Jesus came to be the Savior of all men.
Until death actually takes the sinner from this life, the rule
of salvation still applies, deathbed or no. The apostles said
that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord will be
saved.
This help?
Blessings,
Buddy
