David,
It is common to think of Jewish worship as taking place in synagogues,
but it depends largely on which group of Jews you are referring to.
There are three major denominations of Jews, and each refers to their
place of worship by a different name. As a rule the Orthodox Jewish
place of worship is called 'Shul.' For Conservative Jews it is
'Synagogue.' And for Reform Jews it is called 'Temple.'
