Gloria,
Churches differ considerably with regard to traditions. Each group
has its own reasonings for dress codes. But to answer your
question, I think it is alright for women to wear pants, make-up, and
jewelry if it is done in a modest way. Modesty is the Biblical
guideline that we are to adhere to.

I think it depends entirely on what the book is portraying. With
regard to Biblical characters we need to remember that the Bible
wraps itself around the middle eastern people. As a racial grouping
these folk would be lighter than the African person, but darker than
the Anglo people. But for some reason we always seem to see
Bibical people according to who we are.
As you know Christianity is multicultural. Whether we are of the
white or black races, when we become born from above we
become true brothers and sisters in Christ. One of our black
members use to tell me, "Brother Martin, there is no white Holy
Ghost or black Holy Ghost." I liked her take on this.
I realize it can be difficult but we must all teach our children to see
beyond color. (I can't tell you much about the book issue. I believe
there are black Christian publishing houses that you may want to
look into.)

Our ministry is located in the deep south and our leadership is both
white and black. (Louisiana) Our congregation is multi-racial. As
for your need to be in church, let the Holy Spirit guide you. I think it
is important for believers of all cultures to learn to worship
together, and to love one another.
You made a comment that I am curious about. You said you could
pick a 'ok' black church, or a 'very good' white church. What do you
mean by this?
The reason I ask is because several of our black members have
said something similar in that they prefer to be in our ministry
rather than a fully black church. We have around ten families of
blacks, but most of them have been members for many years.
They've even told me of the ridicule they get from other blacks for
attending a "white" church. (We've never considered ourselves a
white church. We are all members of the same race. That race is
called Christian.)
> I know race shouldn't play a part but that is only
in a perfect world.

Sister, you come on down to Louisiana. You will love us. : )
I do wish you all the best. Let me know if there is something I can
help you with. And thanks for writing.
The Lord bless you,
Blessings,
