Peter,
Your question:
> I need to know what is the rapture?
The rapture relates to the second coming of Jesus Christ. It is
the removal of the true people of God from the earth. The word
itself is from the Latin word raptura, which, comes from the
Greek word harpazo. Harpazo is a Bible term. It means to
snatch up or catch away.
A Scripture that speaks of the rapture is 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17;
"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with
the voice of the archangel and with the sound of a trumpet of God,
and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and
remain will be caught [harpazo] up together with them in the
clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be
with the Lord."
Hope this helps.
