Ask The Pastor
December 6, 2000
George,
You asked three good questions. Here are your questions with
my responses:
> 1) IF THE SABBATH AND HOLY DAYS WERE DONE AWAY
>
WITH, WHY DID PAUL, THE APOSTLE STILL OBEY THOSE
> COMMANDMENTS UNTIL HIS DEATH?
There is no data available to my knowledge that says Paul obeyed
the Sabbath and the Jewish holy days commandments until his
death. This seems to be an assumption that someone has made.
Actually Paul left this up to each individual believer.
As for Paul's testimony for how he conducted himself, this is what
he said: "To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews;
to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not
myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the
Law; to those who are without law, as without law, though not
being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, that that I
might win those who are without law." (1Co9:20,21)
> 2) ALSO WHY DOES HEBREWS 4:9 STATE "THERE
> REMAINS, THEN , A SABBATH REST FOR THE PEOPLE
> OF G-D; IF THE SABBATH WAS DONE AWAY WITH
> WHY WOULD THE AUTHOR HAVE PUT THAT IN THERE.
The 'rest' that Hebrews 4:9 is speaking of has to do with the
finished work of Christ. It is important to contextualize this
verse. Hebrews 4:1 begins; "Therefore, let us fear if, while a
promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem
to have come short of it."
> 3) ZECHARIAH 14:16 THEN THE SURVIVORS FROM ALL
NATIONS THAT HAVE
> ATTACKED JERUSALEM WILL GO UP YEAR AFTER YEAR TO WORSHIP THE KING, THE
> LORD ALMIGHTY, AND TO CELEBRATE THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES. IF THE HOLY
> DAYS WERE DONE AWAY WITH AT THE CRUCIFICTION WHY DOES THE LORD EXPECT US
> TO KEEP A FEAST UPON HIS RETURN?
This portion refers to the millennium. The Gentile peoples who
attend to this festival are survivors who had attacked
Jerusalem. Notice that only the feast of tabernacles is
mentioned.
Hope this helps.
Shalom in Christ,
Bro. Buddy
