Denise,
There are things that are important to knowing the will of God. You
mentioned the 'desires of my own heart.' You may be familiar with where
this comes from. The Psalmist said, "Delight yourself in the LORD; and He
will give you the desires of your heart." (Psa37:4)
The Lord meant exactly what He said the. The connection is to delight
yourself in Him. This means that when doing God's will is more important to you
than anything else, and that your delight is truly in the Lord Jesus Himself,
then the knowledge of God's will, will be an outflow of your heart.
But if I understood your question correctly, you are asking if the desire of
your heart is an indication that this desire is from God's will for you. My
answer would be, yes, that can actually be the case. It depends largely if what
is in your heart measures up with what you know to be a righteous thing. As a
child of God, you have to determine this for yourself.
The truth of the matter is that God's deepest work in our lives will always
be
in our heart. In the Old Testament, the heart could not be trusted, because the
heart was deceitful. In the New Testament the reverse is true for a believer.
The Lord gives us a new heart and in this heart the Lord makes known His will
for us.
Let me know if this helps.
The Lord bless you,
Buddy
