Your question:

The sin of Onan was not an issue of masturbation. You have it
correct.
I'm not aware of a direct Scripture against masturbation. As the
case may be, however, a sin in masturbation would involve the
imaginations of the heart. Jesus spoke of lusting after a woman as a
sin of the heart. Thus in the case of a woman with the same lust.
(The Greek word for lust speaks of a strong desire to possess.)
