bible that talks about
> smoking
There is no reason to find direct verses in the Bible concerning
smoking. People did not smoke in Bible times. To process your
question, we need to consider the hazards or benefits of smoking.
For example, would smoking be considered a defilement of God's
creation? Several forms of cancer are directly attributed to smoking.
Even second-hand smoke is dangerous.
So, Scripturally speaking smoking would fall into the category of a
defilement of the flesh (body). The Bible says, "Let us cleanse
ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in
the fear of God." (2Co7:1)
Can smoking be placed in the category of a habit-forming drug that
has no health benefit whatsoever, but rather actually destroys? Yes,
nicotine is a drug. Even caffeine in coffee has positive effects if you
drink coffee in moderation. (This is proven scientifically.) The same is
true with wine. But nicotine does nothing but destroy.
Since nicotine is a defiler, and a habit-forming drug, and ultimately a
destroyer, is it possible that it would be a sin for a believer to smoke?
Finally -- Is it possible that you are asking this question because of
your own conscience? (I use to smoke, so I know first hand the power
that nicotine has over a person. The Lord graciously delivered me. So I
do know what I'm talking about.)
What do you think? Is smoking a sin?
